Membership Update

Memberships are starting to flood in ahead of the April renewal period [155 nr to date] so if you are still to rejoin or thinking of joining here are my top tips for a hassle free application.

  • Don’t make your cheque payable to me.
  • Don’t send your cheque to me
  • Don’t send your Application Form to the Treasurer
  • Make sure you fill out an Application Form
  • Don’t send back a blank Application Form
  • Don’t forget to attach your Form to the e-mail
  • Don’t forget to send in both the details and payment part of the Form.
  • Do use the fee calculator built into the Excel version of the Form
  • Do save yourself time and money by filling in the Form on-line and e-mailing back
  • Do read the Form before applying [B membership is only available to Existing B members]
  • Do save yourself money by joining British Tennis [Free online]
  • Do include your BT membership number if possible.

Finally, many thanks to all those of you who have overpaid, surplus membership money will be added to the Phyllis Tuckwell charity contributions.

 Happy Form Filling

Surrey Postal Tournament

Dear CLTC members,

It’s that time of year when Surrey LTA are looking for entries into a number of competitions & I’m hoping by way of this email we can tempt you into playing a little more this season..

Surrey LTA operate a Summer postal competition for a variety of age groups involving Men’s, Ladies’ Singles & Doubles plus Mixed Doubles. We’ve termed the competition postal because that’s how it operates. Players / teams from all clubs throughout Surrey can enter & the organisers create a knockout draw. Each competitor will receive postal notification on who their opponent is (including contact details), if the match is home or away & the play by date. It is then up to you to contact your opponent & arrange the match. The format of these matches is 2 Tie-Break sets followed by a Championship Tie-Break (first to 10 points). The finals day has been scheduled for Sunday 25 July 2010 at Purley Sports Club.

Now to the categories..
· Men’s Open Singles
· Men’s Doubles
· Men’s Singles Over 35 (34 or over on 31/12/09), Over 45 (44 or over on 31/12/09), Over 55 (54 or over on 31/12/09), Over 60 (59 or over on 31/12/09)

· Ladies’ Doubles Over 40, 50, 60

If you’re interested in playing in any of these postal competitions please contact Dan Brook (Dan.Brook@rbs.co.uk) with the following information – name, address, telephone number & email address. Cost per event is £10 per pair for a doubles event & £5 for a singles event. Please send online payments to the CLTC account, remembering to include ‘Surrey Tournament’ as a reference. Cheques should be sent to Jez Filley (Club Treasurer) with an explanation of what it is for.

CAMBERLEY LAWN TENNIS CLUB

NEWSLETTER – FEBRUARY 2010

Compiled by Janice Alves de Sousa (janiceads@btinternet.com)

  Dear Members,

The Committee would like to welcome you all to another season at Camberley and hope that the club will offer you the kind of tennis you are looking for, whether it is fun or more serious.  We strive very hard to find the right balance between fielding competitive teams, playing socially and making sure the juniors have plenty of court space also.  Please support as many events as you can – don’t forget it’s you who make the Club what it is.

We have great playing courts, all with floodlights, a lovely patio area overlooking the courts together with a recently refurbished clubhouse – all in a very pleasant setting.

We do ask you to continue to subscribe to British Tennis for two good reasons: firstly, you are eligible for a £5 discount on your club subscription and secondly, the more BT members we have, the more our Wimbledon ticket allocation is increased.Â

The Finals of the Open Tournament will take place again in September, and like last year, it will be run over a longer period to ensure that all matches can be played.  The preliminary rounds will kick off in May.  Please make sure you enter in good time; you will notice that the entry fee has been removed.  The Vets Finals will take place in July.Â

We are planning to hold monthly American tournaments, and these will hopefully take place on the first Saturday of each month from May through to August, and to give everyone a chance of winning, we will run them on a handicap basis.Â

There are several new faces on the Committee this year.  Geraldine Carter decided to step down as Treasurer, and Jez Filley has taken on this role.  Geraldine still remains on the Committee with Mary State as General Members.  Jill Lederer is replaced by Marilyn Dobbie as Ladies’ Captain, and Doug Wakefield is our Junior Representative.   The full Committee list can be accessed via the web site, which is maintained by Dan Gough.

The box leagues, both singles and doubles have proved successful enough for another round to shortly commence.Â

The first social event of the year will be a Quiz, hosted by myself, on Wednesday, 14th April, with a Fish & Chip supper.  Check out details of this via the web site or from the clubhouse noticeboard.  The start of our playing season, with tea included, gets underway on Saturday, 10th April, so please come and enjoy the afternoon.

No final decision has been made about the annual Dinner Dance, usually held in January, but we will discuss and let you know what we decide.

Don’t forget that you can also help the Club’s funds by directing any purchases you make from Amazon through the Club web site; just go to www.camberleyltc.com, select the Amazon links, then shop in the normal way.  The Club earns 5% commission for purchases made in this way.

As we continue to conduct most of our administration/general notification electronically, it is still very important that you let us have any new/change of e-mail address, and you can do this via our on-line management system. Obviously we shall continue to post notices up in the clubhouse as well.Â

Of course, not every one wants to be part of a team, and there are plenty of times for you to play, either in friendly pre-arranged fours or singles, or at club sessions.  Check out court space and availability via the booking system.

Please note that both the Open & Veteran entry forms will be sent out under separate cover this year.

Here’s hoping for a long hot summer!
